Having your Web browser remember your passwords can be convenient, but it poses some security risks. How much of a risk depends on which browser you’re using, whether you sync with other devices, and whether you’re using any of the browser's extra security features. DES recommends NOT saving passwords or syncing your browser settings. Below are the steps to disable it for each browser.

Chrome

To stop Chrome from asking to save your passwords and Turn off Auto Sync

  1. Click Chrome mceclip0.png

  2. Click the Chrome menu mceclip2.png in the toolbar and choose Settings.

  3. Scroll down to Autofill and click Passwords.

  4. Turn off “Offer to save passwords” and “Auto Sign-in”.

  5. Click “You and Google

  6. Expand “Sync and Google Services” and turn off “Allow Chrome sign-in

Firefox

To stop Firefox from asking to save your passwords:

  1. Click Firefox mceclip5.png

  2. Click the Firefox menu mceclip6.png in the toolbar and choose Options.

  3. Click Privacy & Security.

  4. Scroll down to “Logins and Passwords" and uncheck "Ask to save logins and passwords for websites”.

Microsoft Edge

To stop Edge from asking to save your passwords:

  1. Click Edge mceclip1.png

  2. Click the Edge menu mceclip3.png  in the toolbar and choose Settings.

  3. Click Passwords.

  4. Turn off “Offer to save passwords”.
